Minimalist Footwear for Trainers

Session Description

In this 60-minute webinar, personal trainers will gain a clear, evidence-informed introduction to minimalist and barefoot footwear. This session distills key concepts from the full Minimalist Footwear: Health, Performance, and Therapy course into a practical, trainer-relevant format. You’ll learn how modern footwear alters movement mechanics, how minimalist options may support stronger, more resilient feet, and how to responsibly integrate barefoot principles into training environments.

What You’ll Learn

  • The defining characteristics of minimalist and barefoot footwear
  • Key biomechanical differences between modern cushioned shoes and minimalist designs
  • Common injuries and movement issues associated with footwear choices
  • Practical guidelines for safely introducing minimalist and barefoot principles to clients

Who Should Attend
This webinar is designed for personal trainers and fitness professionals who want to make more informed footwear recommendations, improve client movement quality, and better support performance and long-term foot health.

Ashley Burr BSc.(KIN) CAT (C)

Certified Athletic Therapist

Ashley is an Athletic Therapist at Arora Family Chiropractic, where she has worked since 2014 with athletes and active individuals across a wide range of sports and ability levels. Her professional focus centers on foot health, footwear choices, and their impact on movement quality, performance, and injury risk.

Ashley’s interest in movement began early, shaped by her own injury history and years of participation in swimming, softball, gymnastics, and army cadets. This foundation led her to pursue advanced training in biomechanics and therapeutic movement, with particular emphasis on how footwear influences loading patterns, gait, and long-term musculoskeletal health.

During her university education, Ashley completed practicum placements with the University of Winnipeg Women’s Basketball team, Kelvin High School Junior and Varsity Football programs, and the Winnipeg Warriors AAA U14 Hockey team. She continued working with the Kelvin football program for over a decade following certification.

In addition to her clinical work, Ashley teaches continuing education courses for fitness and health professionals, including Minimalist Footwear: Health, Performance, and Therapy, pelvic and women’s health, and myofascial cupping. Her teaching emphasizes practical application, helping trainers and clinicians make informed footwear decisions and safely integrate minimalist and barefoot principles into training and rehabilitation settings.

Outside of her professional work, Ashley enjoys running, staying active, and spending time with her family.
