CSEP is a voluntary organization composed of professionals interested and involved in the scientific study of exercise physiology, exercise biochemistry, fitness and health. The CSEP (then known as the Canadian Association of Sport Sciences), was founded at the Pan American Game, Winnipeg, Manitoba 1967.
CSEP MISSION
“To Promote the generation, synthesis, transfer and application of knowledge and research related to exercise physiology (encompassing physical activity, fitness, health, nutrition, epidemiology, and human performance).”
CSEP VISION
“To be recognized as the Canadian scientific authority on exercise physiology and fitness appraisal providing a continuum of service from those who drive the science to those who implement/apply the science.”
CSEP PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT :
“ To ensure that quality fitness practices and physical activity counselling services are available to assist in the promotion of an active lifestyle for all Canadians.”
OBJECTIVES:
· To establish standards of competence for fitness appraisal/personal trainer personnel and centres on a national scale, and to encourage those currently working in the field or anticipating entering the field to comply with these standards.
· T o provide consumer protection by educating the public to recognize the distinction in qualifications between levels in the model.
CODE OF CONDUCT:
Members of the CSEP – H & FP shall recognize that professional ethics are founded upon integrity, competence, devotion to service and to the advancement of human welfare. This concept shall guide their conduct at all times. In this way, each professional’s actions will enhance the dignity and status of the profession.
Member’s through their practice, are charged with extending public understanding of the profession and should serve in public affairs when their professional knowledge may be of benefit to the public. Members will build their reputation on the basis of merit of the service performed or offered and shall not compete unfairly with others or compete primarily on the basis of fees without due consideration for other factors. Members will maintain a special obligation to demonstrate understanding, professionalism and technical expertise to apprentice members under their supervision.
